Guardian Homes– Goldendoodle & Bernedoodle Breeder in Wisconsin
At Goldendoodle Acres, our dogs are family. To give each of our breeding dogs the best life possible, we limit how many live in our home full-time (we have three).
But to continue improving our program and introducing the highest-quality bloodlines, we occasionally need to add new dogs to our breeding family.
The answer?
Our Guardian Home Program — a loving, family-based approach to responsible breeding.
What Is a Guardian Home?
A Guardian Home is a special family that partners with us to raise and love one of our breeding dogs as their own.
This allows us to expand our program responsibly — keeping our dogs in warm, happy homes instead of kennels — while giving Guardian Families the chance to raise a top-quality puppy at no cost.
Our Guardian dogs live normal, full family lives — going on walks, cuddling on the couch, and being part of your everyday world.
How It Works
To qualify as a Guardian Home, you must:
- Live within 20 miles of our home
- Be flexible with drop-offs and pickups for vet visits, health testing, breeding, and (for females) whelping
As a Guardian Family, you’ll receive a pick-of-the-litter puppy for free, and that dog becomes your forever pet.
For Females:
- We retain breeding rights for 3–4 litters, depending on the dog’s health and temperament
- She stays with your family during pregnancy (about 63 days)
- She comes back to us a few days before delivery and remains here for about 5ish weeks while she raises her puppies
- Once her breeding career is over, she is spayed and remains with your family permanently
For Males:
- Males are bred on an as-needed basis
- He stays with your family full time and may occasionally visit us for short breeding appointments
Responsibilities & Care
Guardian Families are responsible for the dog’s everyday care, including:
- Regular vet checkups and vaccinations
- High-quality food and daily care
- Pet Insurance
- Love, attention, and a safe home
We cover all costs related to genetic and breeding health testing and any breeding-related expenses.
Once your dog passes the required genetic testing, we’ll add them to our breeding program and coordinate breeding timing directly with you.
Important Considerations
Being a Guardian Home is a commitment — but a rewarding one.
For female dogs, you’ll need to:
- Manage heat cycles and protect her from unplanned matings
- Communicate closely with us when she comes into heat
- Be comfortable with short separations when she stays with us for whelping and nursing
For male dogs, families must:
- Prevent contact with unapproved intact females
- Ensure he’s only bred under our supervision
